Mt Takao(高尾山)is listed in the 100 mountains of Japan and is one of the easily accessible mountains from Tokyo. It takes around 1 hour 15 minutes by train from Tokyo Station to the Takaosanguchi Station(高尾山口駅). One has a choice to ride the Cable Car or the Chain Lift from there and then walk another 50 minutes to get to the top of the mountain.
The visitor also has the option of hiking all the way to the peak (599 metres) through a few mostly comfortable hiking routes. The serious hiker also has the option of going all the way to Mt Jimba(陣場山)which is a return trip of 5 hours from the peak of Mt Takao.
Mt Takao is one of the recommended viewing spot for the Autumn Colours and though we went in early Autumn we could still watch some of the colourful scenes.
The autumn colours peak in late November, and the mountainside will be a palette of exuberance, people and colours intertwining inseparably.
Statues and shrines dot the hiking course reminding the visitor that it is a holy mountain.
